Maria Ivonne Rivera MPH

Ivonne has over fifteen years of experience in qualitative research design, development, training,  and implementation.  Maria Ivonne’s consulting practice focuses on providing services to organizations in the design and development of focus groups and key respondent interviews, intercept interviews, dyads and triads, cognitive testing interviews, evaluation and quantitative community surveys.

She has worked extensively with the African American, Ethiopian, Asian and Latino community in the DC metropolitan area in the areas of: interpretation, translation, training, forum and group facilitation, outreach, health education programs and evaluation.

Ivonne worked for 13 years at Children’s National Medical Center. She was a Research Coordinator for the Department of Psychiatry overseeing various projects on mental health. She built a Language Services Program to provide medical interpretation to parents and children from various ethnics groups. She trained medical interpreters for culturally appropriateness interpretation techniques.

Her qualitative research experience is centered on consumer, social, and health issues.  Her research engagements have included explorations of respondent preferences regarding consumer goods/products, retail sales, including vending machines, respondent media preferences, barriers to decision-making, sectoral employment practices, political campaign messages, testing publications and audiovisual informational materials on a variety of health issues and products, traffic accident issues, health program evaluations, media campaign message evaluations, assessments of health risk factors in high-risk populations, barriers to health care decision-making, and health screening practices.  Her clients include advertising agencies, research companies, local and federal government agencies, universities, private corporations, and associations throughout the country.

Ivonne holds a Master of Public Health degree from The George Washington University.  She has received qualitative research and moderator training at the RIVA Training Institute in Bethesda, Maryland and an active member of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association (QRCA). She is also, Member, Board of Directors, The HSC Health Care System, Health Services for Children with Special Needs, Inc.  Member, Board of Directors, The HSC Foundation and  a Member, Board of Directors, Proyecto Salud, Silver Spring, MD.
